Scott loved golf. So it was no surprise he chose to build a career as a groundskeeper at Clinton Hills. He often described his time on the course (while both working and playing) as therapeutic. For this reason, the Scott Richards Memorial Scholarship is funded primarily through the proceeds of an annual golf tournament. Each year, our organization hosts a 4-person scramble at a regional golf course. Our tournament attracts both serious golfers and those who are perhaps less experienced; but enjoy spending time on the course nonetheless.
We have established our tournament as one for players of all skill levels, with a focus on ensuring our event is memorable. (See our gallery for photographic proof of how memorable it truly is!) Our players are treated to a complimentary Bloody Mary bar during registration. They enjoy a quick lunch at the turn. And are then provided with a banquet dinner during our awards ceremony. Additionally, players are gifted with goody bags and attendance prizes while enjoying a number of games throughout the course.
Trophies and golf passes are awarded to specific contest winners such as "closest to the pin" and "longest drive" as well as winners in multiple flights. Another tournament trademark is a free Nike golf polo provided to each registered player and color-coded for each new year. We are blessed to have many players who proudly boast the entire "collection". It is important for us to give back to those who graciously support our cause!
Another source of funding comes from the Silent Auction. The Silent Auction is held in the clubhouse during the tournament. The auction is an assortment of goods, services, and experiences donated by local businesses and affiliates. We offer packages at a variety of price-points and with various consumer appeal. Although the Silent Auction is currently open to players and visitors, we are working to expand to an online format in the very near future.
